Shades of Turquoise

Years ago, you would be sure to find me roaming about the turquoise waters of the warm Caribbean Sea. Having just discovered the world has a lot more to offer than merely the dark-greyish streets I was so discontent with during the Scandinavian winter season. All of a sudden I would found myself surrounded by a myriad of natural colors, cheerful natives and soon learn just how important having the sun, sea and nature in my life would become.

The Dominican Republic’s island vibe touched my soul and quickly made me realize that I had arrived at the point of no return. At the time, I spent most of my days either submerged in the deep blue, on a beach hiding in the shade of a palm tree or drinking beers in the evening hours with the locals.

Although I dream of returning to similarly picturesque surroundings, I dream of experiencing the tropics from a different perspective. Imagine rising up to an angle which allows me to see the big picture including the many shades of turquoise that an island, such as one found in the Caribbean Sea or the Indian Ocean, has to offer.

A dear friend of mine told me that at the end of our lifetime, we should be proud not of how much
material wealth we have acquired but of how many stamps we have collected in our passports.

It is fair to say that a person may lead many lives within the span of his or her lifetime. Life should not only be fun but memorable.

I am happy to have had the pleasure of leading several lives within my short lifetime. From growing up in a suburb to studying in the big city. From living and working on tropical islands as part of scuba diving operations to working in 9–5 office environments. From pruning trees and harvesting avocados in tropical fruit plantations to working in a busy international airport.

Having experienced life at sea, on earth, and in air, I have learned that a ’sweet spot’ may exist where the three elements overlap.

Imagine waking up to the rising sun on the far horizon, walking barefoot onto the pontoon of your De Havilland Twin Otter, and stepping inside the cockpit only to depart moments later from a seemingly infinitely long runway toward the high skies. Here, we can enjoy the breathtaking views of the Maldivian Atolls while we fly toward a morning pickup of high spirited passengers.

They say you have to visualize what you want to manifest in your life.
